Elinore Blaisdell
Elinore Blaisdell (1900–1994) was an American illustrator and designer celebrated for her evocative illustrations in children’s classics, mythological works, and beyond. A native of Brooklyn, New York, she studied at the Art Students League, where she trained under the noted painter Robert Brackman, as well as at the Pratt Institute and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. During her prolific career, she illustrated titles such as Tales from Shakespeare, Little Women, A. E. Housman’s A Shropshire Lad, and Bulfinch’s Mythology. In 1939, she earned the Julia Ellsworth Ford Prize for her book, Falcon Fly Back. Later in life, she designed greeting cards under pseudonyms and exhibited still life paintings in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she remained from 1979 until her death.
