Dwight Shepler
Dwight Clark Shepler (1905–1974) was an American painter and naval officer from Massachusetts who served as an official U.S. Navy combat artist during World War II. In 1942, after graduating from Williams College and studying at the Boston Museum School, he was commissioned to document major military campaigns, producing over 300 powerful paintings and earning a Bronze Star. Following the war, Shepler returned to New England and focused on watercolors of ski scenes, sports, portraits, and murals, including work for the U.S. Naval Academy. Later, he served as president of the Guild of Boston Artists, actively supporting the regional art community until his passing in 1974.
