Auguste Delacroix (1809-1868)

Auguste Delacroix was a French painter born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, best known for Breton genre scenes and marine subjects. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon between 1835 and 1865, receiving a third-class medal in 1839, a second-class medal in 1841, and a first-class medal in 1846. Delacroix traveled to Morocco and Algeria around 1849, where he produced a series of Orientalist drawings and watercolours. Late in his career, he settled in Italy and continued to paint despite a stroke-induced paralysis that forced him to work with his left hand. His works are held in museums in Calais, La Rochelle, Pontoise, Reims, and Cologne.
