Wolf Kahn
Wolf Kahn (1927–2020) was a German‑born American painter celebrated for luminous landscapes that combine elements of realism with vibrant color fields. He fled Nazi Germany as a child, settled in the United States, and studied with Stuart Davis and Hans Hofmann before completing a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Chicago. Kahn’s first solo show was at New York’s Hansa Gallery in 1953, and he exhibited widely throughout his career, including long representation by Grace Borgenicht Gallery. He lived and worked between New York City and West Brattleboro, Vermont, often drawing on New England scenery for inspiration. His work is held in major museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Modern Art.
