Sigurd Skou


Sigurd Skou (1875–1929) was a Norwegian-American artist celebrated for his expressive portraits, still lifes, and seascapes. Born in Fredrikshald, Norway, he studied under prominent artists Anders Zorn in Stockholm and Christian Krohg in Paris before immigrating to the United States in 1918. Settling in Chicago, Skou worked as an illustrator and participated in exhibitions such as the Norwegian-American exhibitions of 1922, 1923, and 1926. His work was showcased at esteemed institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the National Academy of Design. Skou was a founding member of the Grand Central School of Art and was affiliated with several prestigious art organizations, including the Salmagundi Club and the Allied Artists of America.
