Robert Strong Woodward


Robert Strong Woodward (1885–1957) was an American landscape and still-life painter renowned for his evocative depictions of rural New England. Born in Northampton, Massachusetts, he was paralyzed from the waist down at age 21 due to a gunshot accident. Despite this setback, he pursued art, studying briefly at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston under Philip Leslie Hale. Settling in Buckland, Massachusetts, Woodward created over 800 works, including his signature "window pictures" that captured intimate views of his surroundings. His art is celebrated for its serene portrayal of New England's landscapes and interiors.
