Juliet Burdoin (1873-1963)


Juliet Burdoin (née Juliet Howson; born 1873, Toronto, Ontario; died in Ohio) was a Canadian-born painter active in Canada and the United States. She studied at the Ontario School of Art. She continued her training in Paris and the Netherlands, including study at the Académie Julian under William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury. Burdoin exhibited with the Ontario Society of Artists, the Royal Canadian Academy, and the Toronto Art Gallery, and contributed twelve painted cups and saucers to the Canadian Historical Dinner Service presented in 1897. She later played a significant role in developing early art communities in Saskatoon before relocating to Minneapolis and Dayton, Ohio, and maintained a summer studio in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
