Heribert Fischer-Geising

Heribert Fischer-Geising (1896–1984) was a German painter and draftsman known for his expressive realism and vivid portrayals of the Ore Mountains region. Born in Teplitz-Schönau, he studied at the Royal Art Academy in Dresden under Oskar Zwintscher and Robert Sterl. After being wounded in World War I, he settled in Geising, adopting the town's name as his own, and became a prominent local artist. His works, characterized by bold color and emotional depth, often depicted landscapes, still lifes, and portraits of his fellow villagers. In 1961, disillusioned with the political climate in East Germany, Fischer-Geising moved to Freiburg im Breisgau, where he continued to paint until he died in 1984. His legacy is preserved in collections such as the Dresden Art Collections, the Berlin State Museums, and the Osterzgebirgsmuseum Schloss Lauenstein.
