Henri-Joseph Harpignies (1819-1916)
Henri-Joseph Harpignies (1819–1916) was a French landscape painter associated with the Barbizon tradition. Born in Valenciennes, he studied under Jean-Achard and was strongly influenced by Camille Corot. Harpignies exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from the mid-19th century and received numerous honors, including appointment to the Legion of Honor. His work is celebrated for its calm, structured compositions depicting rivers, trees, and rural scenery throughout France and Italy.
