George Shedd (1922-2006)
George Shedd (1922–2006) was an American watercolorist noted for evocative New England scenes, architecture, and maritime subjects. Born in Yonkers, New York, he studied at Cambridge Junior College, Massachusetts College of Art, and the Museum School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Shedd served as a World War II Army Air Forces co-pilot in Guam, where he also taught art and painted murals and cartoons. After the war, he became a signature member of several prestigious art societies, including the American Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America, New England Watercolor Society, and the Guild of Boston Artists. In addition, he taught watercolor classes along the East Coast and in Bermuda for over four decades. He painted until his passing in 2006, focusing on capturing New England architecture and harbor scenes with precision and warmth.
