George Loftus Noyes (1864-1954)


George Loftus Noyes (1864–1954) was an American Impressionist painter best known for his landscapes and still lifes. Born in Bothwell, Ontario, he studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School and later at the Académie Colarossi in Paris under Jean-André Rixens. Returning to Boston, he became a central figure in the Boston School of painters and a respected teacher, with students including Gardner Symons and Carl Nordell. Noyes was a frequent exhibitor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Boston Art Club, and his work was collected by major institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. His vibrant use of color and Impressionist style placed him among the leading painters of early 20th-century New England.
