Frederick Warren Freer
Frederick Warren Freer was an important figure in Chicago's art community. In 1867, Freer traveled to Munich to study at the Royal Academy under Wagner, Straehuber, and Diez. Later, during the summer of 1877, he traveled to Polling, Bavaria, to paint alongside Frank Duveneck and J. Frank Currier. This marked a pivotal period for his artistic growth, reflected in his evocative watercolors and oils capturing the South Tyrol landscape. Despite a posthumous decline in recognition, a resurgence of interest in his legacy began during the late 1970s. His paintings were regularly exhibited at the Society of Western Artists, National Academy of Design, Boston Art Club, Society of American Artists, and the Salmagundi Club.
