Colin Campbell Cooper
Colin Campbell Cooper (1856–1937) was an American painter best known for his Impressionist cityscapes, architectural views, and floral still lifes. Born in Philadelphia, he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later continued his training in Europe at the Académie Julian in Paris. Cooper became especially associated with depictions of modern cities, including New York, where he was among the earliest American artists to paint skyscrapers as subjects in their own right. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, and these experiences informed his luminous palette and confident handling of light. Cooper also served as an influential teacher at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, contributing to the development of American Impressionism in the early 20th century.
