Albert Lorey Groll
Albert Lorey Groll (1866–1952) was an American painter celebrated for his atmospheric landscapes of the American Southwest. Born in New York City, he trained in Munich, London, and Paris before returning to the United States. Groll traveled extensively through Arizona and New Mexico, creating works that earned him acclaim and recognition from the Hopi, who gave him the honorary name “Chief Bald-Head Eagle Eye.” He was a member of the National Academy of Design and also worked in Provincetown, contributing to its early 20th-century art colony while maintaining a career focused on Southwestern landscapes.
